Synopsis
Stiff, paralyzed, stupefied by a shadow show, at the bottom of a cave, a wooden puppet emerges to discover life, nature and the ideal city. He returns to the bottom of the cave to warn to tell the other puppets what he’s seen.
Approach
The film is an adaptation of Plato’s Allegory of the Cave. It lasts 6’44 s.
I chose this universalist philosophical tale against conservatism and preconceived ideas,
firstly because it is still relevant today, with the rise of racism and fascism, climate inaction, etc.
Secondly, because, as image-makers, we have a responsibility to our viewers to help them acquire knowledge, and to accompany them out of the cave, rather than helping to keep them there.
In addition, artistic creativity today is imbued and corseted by marketing and mass consumption, which impose their own models on the public.
To get closer to the imagination of childhood, in order to break away from imposed diktats and reinvigorate artistic creativity.
